As part of the Federal Gas Tax Fund, residents of Wasaga Beach will see improvements to Zoo Park Road South. Zoo Park Road has been identified by the Town as an area for road and drainage improvements including the installation of a sanity sewer forcemain.
Mayor Cal Patterson commented that “since we were already planning to improve Zoo Park Road, Council and staff decided to apply the Federal Gas Tax Funding to this project which will further enhance this portion of the roadway. It is a cost savings measure for the municipality and beneficial to residents of Wasaga Beach.”
Improvements include storm sewer construction, turning lane improvements which will significantly reduce vehicle idling and acceleration, reducing green house gas emissions. Also included in the project is installation of sidewalks and bike lanes that will improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, promoting a healthy lifestyle through active modes of transportation.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Canada’s Economic Action Plan doubled and accelerated the Federal Gas Tax Transfer to Municipalities to help municipalities ensure that their infrastructure is able to meet the future needs of local families, workers and businesses. Standing in front of the construction site today, we can see how this commitment to our Municipalities is really working to provide jobs, boost local economy and improve quality of life for families in Wasaga Beach”, said Hon. Helena Guergis, P.C., M.P.
The Federal Government has committed $403,532.00 to the project.
