Canada and Ontario Partner with Alliston and District Humane Society To Support Animal Welfare in the Community
Alliston, Ontario - The Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario today announced an investment in partnership with The Alliston & District Humane Society that will build a shelter in Adjala-Tosorontio Township. This total federal and provincial investment of $533,334 will help the Alliston & District Humane Society fulfill their long time goal of building their own facility.
“I am pleased to be here today to announce funding for the Alliston and District Humane Society’s project that will enable the volunteers to fulfill their long time goal of having their own facility.” said Helena Guergis, Member of Parliament for Simcoe-Grey. “This project will get shovels in the ground, create jobs and provide support to Alliston and District Humane Society as they continue to provide shelter and care for stray, abused, neglected and unwanted animals.”
“Today’s investment in the Alliston and District Humane Society is yet again another demonstration of the McGuinty government’s commitment to strengthening our communities’ not-for-profit sector in Simcoe Grey, said Aileen Carroll, MPP Barrie. “This investment will help deliver improved community services, help create jobs, and stimulate the local economy in Simcoe Grey.”
“The goal of the Alliston & District Humane Society, since our inception in 1988, has been to build an animal shelter to serve the townships of New Tecumseth, Mulmur, Adjala-Tosorontio as well as the villages of Cookstown, Rosemont, Hockley and the Town of Schomberg. For over 20 years, we have had tremendous community and volunteer support, and we are honored to be recipients of funding from the Federal and Provincial Governments. This endeavor has now become a reality.” said Phil Richards, President of the Alliston and District Humane Society.
The Governments of Canada and Ontario and The Alliston and District Humane Society are each investing one-third of the total project cost. Canada’s funding is part of its new National Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, under Canada’s Economic Action Plan unveiled in January 2009. Ontario’s matching contribution is provided through the 2009 Ontario Budget-Confronting the Challenge: Building Our Economic Future.
Canada and Ontario are working together to create jobs and boost the economy, while making significant investments that help communities improve their infrastructure.
